Serve Dallas has officially kicked off! We have 60 students that are going to be a part of all that the Lord has in store for this week. Each day we are going to share with you some updates of what we got to experience and you’ll get to hear about this from student perspectives too!
Yesterday afternoon we hit the ground running with our orientation and a fun supermarket scavenger hunt in some markets of different cultures. Then we came back and learned about our different roles for the VBS that we will be putting on each evening this week. Then in the evening we had a big family fun kick off at each apartment complex in Park Central that we will be working at this week! This was a time for families to come hang out and eat pizza, play in bounce houses, and just enjoy time together! There was also time for them to hear the gospel from some of our ministers and get more information about getting plugged in with the church. Check out what these students’ have to say about yesterday!
Last Night’s Block Party at La Mirada was so fun! This will be my second year serving at La Mirada and I’m so excited to see the Lord move within these communities as He has in past years. My friends and I met the sweetest little girls and boys, we connected with them though there was a language barrier, through soccer and face paint and popping many balloons while attempting to create animals. It was so sweet to see some of my friends reconnecting with our friends from past years, one of my friends Kylie Cass was so excited to see her sweet 3 year old friend Jade for the second year. Their friendship is so sweet and they do everything together! We are praying that the Lord will use us to further the Kingdom and bring glory to Him! We all are so excited for what this week of serving will bring!

Serve Dallas is here, and we couldn’t be more excited! Yesterday was the official kick off of the week. We started our day with a educational scavenger hunt. We got the opportunity to experience different cultures through local super markets. Often we forget how diverse our city is, it was great to get familiar with the different ethnic groups. Later that night we had great fun hosting block parties at the three different apartments we partnered with. Bubbles, bounce houses, soccer, and Pizza! It was a blast! I had fun playing games, and trying my best to make a dog out of a balloon. It was really amazing to see how God uses people you don’t even know to build community, and ultimately grow His kingdom.
I was excited to get to see familiar faces. In previous years I had met a dear family of five. The children of this family are some of the most down to earth people I know. There parents are also very kind and like to stay and help out. As I was helping a kid put on their shoes, I found my self thanking the Lord for allowing our relationship to continue. Serve Dallas isn’t something we just do for a week. It is about serving our community daily, and doing life with these wonderful people. My hope is that this week God would bring up a group of children who have a desire to know the Lord. I also pray that these kids would take what they are learning to their homes, so that their parents would see that God is Good. We need families who are setting good examples for those around them, and I believe that it will start with their children.
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”-Romans 12:11
-Austin Tye, a rising freshman at Johnson and Wales University
We are praying that God would grow our hearts for His people and our city, filling us with His compassion and love unlike we’ve ever experienced. We are praying that people would come to believe in Jesus for the very first time this week! We are asking God to get done what only He can get done for the sake of His Kingdom. Join us in praying for these things!!
